Very clear and cold day. Took the Solarscope out to do a quick sunspot count.

For the first time since 2007-09-01 an active area was visible on the Sun. Active area 978 appeared quite large near the middle of the face of the sun and appeared to contain 6 spots. Two very distinct spots could be seen with a hint of penumbra around them. As well as a few smaller spots lots dark patches could be seen too. The whole area appeared to be a "loop" of dark marks.
