After a week of cloud and other engagements I finally had some clear skies and a quick chance to have a look for Lulin. Slight hint of mist in the air and a waxing crescent Moon in the western sky. |

Headed out with the 10x50 binoculars and started to sweep the general area that where Lulin should have been. At first I struggled to find it but, after a couple of minutes, I noticed a misty patch that was showing up with averted vision. I have my eyes a little more time to adapt and what I was seeing started to stand up to direct vision. It was obviously Lulin. The view I had is best described as a large faint misty patch, elongated in one dimension, with no obvious "core" and with no sign of a tail. No sign of any colour was visible either (some people had been reporting that it looked green to the eye). I grabbed my 20x60 monocular and had a look through that to see if there was any difference but it looked pretty much the same as above. |
